Hacken Lee: Dogs & Babies Can Co-exist

27 July 2008

Hacken Lee (李克勤) was the guest of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) president Gigi Fu (傅明憲) today at a promotional event for animal rights at Olympian City, sponsored by Hush Puppies.

At the event, Hacken joined other guests in sharing tips on how to protect their pets. Hacken is a pet owner himself, owning five dogs and he said that when his wife was pregnant with their son, many friends asked if he would be giving away his dogs to avoid them giving the baby allergies. When he spoke to the doctor, he found out that is is fine for babies and pets to live together, but he has kept them away from his son to avoid the risk of them wanting to bite the baby. However, Hacken smiled that whenever his son sees dogs, he seems to be very happy.

Hacken will soon be heading out to Beijing to help with the TVB coverage of the Olympic Games.

Gigi explained that many of the pure breed dogs that are rescued by the society are quickly adopted, but mongrels are less likely to be accepted. She encouraged people to give loving homes to these animals. She said that she would love to give the dogs a home, but because she already owns some Pekinese dogs, she cannot take on any other breed because they will not get along. She admitted that she is a true dog-lover and has an undefinable relationship with them.

Asked if her dogs or her husband were more important to her, Gigi said that the two could not be compared in this way.
