Faye Wong Prays For Quake Victims
21 May 2008
A Buddhist prayer ceremony was held today at the Hong Kong Coliseum to pray for the victims and the survivors of the Sichuan Earthquake that destroyed towns and villages in Central China last week.
Faye Wong (王菲) was among the famous faces in the congregation and she had returned to Hong Kong from her home in Beijing especially to attend the ceremony. She was accompanied by Jacky Cheung (張學友) and Aloys Chen (陳坤).
When Faye arrived at the airport earlier in the day, she had immediately been surrounded by press, who were eager to hear from the elusive star. Asked why her husband Li Yapeng (李亞鵬) had not accompanied her on the trip, she explained that he was busy working. She also pointed out that she will not be singing for this particular event. As this is a religious ceremony, she was also asked if she had undergone any spiritual cleansing to take part, but she refused to reply, saying that these gestures should come from the heart.
When asked if she would like to go and visit the areas affected by the quake, Faye said that she will not be going just yet because it is still quite chaotic. She added that she has no plans to hold a charity concert, but will consider taking part in the HKPAG charity film and the concert fundraiser in June.
